Hi. I’m Mary Tamaki.

Thank you for visiting my site! I’m an artist and writer based in Los Angeles, California, sharing pieces of my creative journey with you.

Here, you’ll find a gallery of my “one-hour paintings,” often created at the close of long workdays. For me, painting has become a kind of visual journaling—an immediate and instinctive way to express my thoughts without overthinking or needing to explain. It’s a freeform process, similar to automatic writing, where each piece takes shape in the moment. My work is mostly abstract, though my style, themes, and media evolve dramatically from one painting to the next.

I’m also a writer exploring a deeply personal series of short stories, many of which focus on my relationship with my mom and the profound influence she’s had on my life. Writing, much like painting, is an experimental process for me—raw, expressive, and free-spirited. My hope is to continue performing these works on stage and, one day, bring them together in a published collection.

Thank you for taking the time to explore my work—I hope it resonates with you in some way.
